The entire subplot of Scott’s assassin pretending to be a kindly orderly and gaining Charlie’s trust is a bleaker, darker sort of horror than anything on offer in the 2022 remake, while the sheer amount of screen time afforded to Sheen’s villainous Captain Hollister makes him a more empathetic villain than Gloria Reuben’s version of the character.
